MOUNT ADARRA (1075m)
Adarra mountain, just few minutes drive out of the city of San Sebastian, is a lovely A 3-4 hour hike to admire the city from one of the best natural viewpoints of the region. Starting deep in the rolling Basque hills this diverse trail makes its way through a beech forest with fresh water streams and birdsong guiding you as you go. As we get higher, and get out of the shade of the beech forest, over marsh land and meadow, we will have great chances to meet the local wild horses, sheep etc. The final climb is a challenge that makes reaching the summit seem all the sweeter with a breath taking 360 degree view out over the hills and over surrounding area into the blue of the sea.
There are also the historic megalithic tombs to discover on the way up. (2 hours up, 1:15 hours down)
LUNCH IN A CIDER HOUSE
You will feast family style (the plates are meant to be shared among the dinners) on chorizo a la sidra, a spanish omelette with salt cod, cod with sweet peppers and onions, and txuleta (grilled bone-in prime rib cooked over an open fire). Dessert is local sheep’s cheese with walnuts and membrillo.
The meal is always punctuated with laughs and unlimited visits to the cider barrels.
